Episode 2

April 18, 2006

Films Reviewed: Brick and Scary Movie 4

Commentary: Director John McTiernan

Featurette: Keifer Sutherland in The Sentinel

Regarding Brick:

Matt: There is a lot of style in Rian Johnson’s debut.  Film noir easily finds a home in modern day high school, but the script needs a rewrite.  Expect better things from Mr. Johnson in the future.  Two and a half stars.

Aron: I have to agree with Matt on this one.  The performances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Lukas Haas only go so far in this film.  But the tone really is film noir in color.  Two and a half stars.

Average Rating: **1/2 (out of ****)

Regarding Scary Movie 4:

Aron: Anna Faris and Regina King return to spoof even more horror (and Oscar winning) films with the help of the ZAZ team.  It’s funny while you’re watching it, but you’ve seen it before.  Two and a half stars.

Matt: I thought it was funnier than its immediate predecessor.  I did laugh (and not all of the funniest scenes are in the trailers).  But it really is cheap, disposable entertainment.  Two and a half stars.

Average Rating:  (out of ****)

Commentary: Director John McTiernan (Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October) recently entered a plea bargain to perjury charges involved in a wiretapping case.  Aron and Matt took a look at his feature films and wonder if he can make a comeback.

Featurette: A look behind the scenes with Keifer Sutherland in The Sentinel
